Continuing a Proud Tradition: U.S. Flag Stamps

The 2022 U.S. Flag stamp continues a beloved postal tradition, honoring the Stars and Stripes as a symbol of the nation’s enduring principles. Illustrator and stamp designer Laura Stutzman created the design by combining three photographs of the same flag, capturing both movement and strength in a single dynamic image.

This set of six Forever stamps showcases the American flag in different artistic treatments, each celebrating the pride, unity, and sacrifice the flag represents.

As Glynis Seeley once said, “You don’t truly understand the meaning of the [American] flag until someone hands you a folded one.” Her words refer to the ceremonial folding of the flag at military funerals — performed with solemn precision, thirteen folds honoring service, sacrifice, and the values for which the flag stands.

These stamps serve as a daily reminder of America’s history, courage, and the shared ideals symbolized in the Stars and Stripes.
