Each Christmas season, Christians around the world reflect on the birth and early life of Jesus Christ. This stamp honors that sacred story with a graceful design depicting Joseph leading a donkey carrying Mary and the infant Jesus, guided by a shining star.
According to scripture, wise men from the East traveled to honor the “King of the Jews,” presenting gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. When King Herod, fearing a rival, sought to destroy the child, Joseph was warned in a dream to take his family and flee to Egypt. Sustained by the Magi’s gifts, the Holy Family began their 200-mile journey immediately.
Over the centuries, legends enriched the story — a palm tree bending to feed Mary, idols falling as Jesus passed, and sacred sites marking where the family rested during their flight.
Art director William Gicker, designer Greg Breeding, and artist Nancy Stahl collaborated to create this meaningful stamp, blending faith, history, and artistry in a timeless tribute to the Holy Family.
