The stamp honors Cincinnati’s Union Terminal, an architectural masterpiece and historic transportation hub. The design, illustrated by Down the Street Designs, highlights Union Terminal alongside other notable stations — Tamaqua, Point of Rocks, Main Street, and Santa Fe — celebrating the rich history of America’s railways.
Built between 1929 and 1933, Union Terminal is an iconic example of Art Deco architecture, originally designed by Roland Wank and later modified by Paul Philippe Cret. Often referred to as a “Temple to Transportation,” the station was engineered to accommodate 17,000 passengers and 216 trains per day.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, Union Terminal has undergone periods of closure, renovation, and revitalization. Today, it houses an OMNIMAX theater and several museums, continuing to serve as both a cultural landmark and a lasting tribute to America’s golden age of rail travel.
