This Forever stamp honors the legendary 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 302, a model revered by pony car enthusiasts. The design features an oil painting that captures the power and spirit of this iconic machine, part of a five-stamp Pony Cars set celebrating influential American automotive classics.
The First Day of Issue ceremony took place at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California, spotlighting a car that defined an era of style, speed, and innovation.
Developed under Ford President Semon Knudsen, the Mustang Boss 302 was created to compete on the racing circuit. Corvette designer Larry Shinoda played a key role in the top-secret project, which combined upgraded engines, wider wheel wells, aerodynamic spoilers, and distinctive paint schemes. Its name — “Boss” — reflected both its engineering ambition and cultural impact.
The Boss 302 secured its place in history with a championship victory in 1970, cementing its reputation as a racing legend. Ford briefly revived the Boss name in 2012, giving a new generation of enthusiasts the chance to experience the golden age of pony cars.
