To honor one of Disney’s most unforgettable villains and highlight the artistry of the Walt Disney Studios Ink & Paint Department, the U.S. Postal Service issued a special commemorative stamp featuring the Evil Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The design showcases newly created artwork by Disney Creative Director David Pacheco and the Walt Disney Studios Ink & Paint Department. The First Day of Issue ceremony was held at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California, during a major Disney fan event.
Part of the Disney Villains set, the pane includes 10 unique stamp designs depicting classic villains from Disney’s animated films. The reverse side of the pane features sketches of all 10 characters alongside memorable quotes. According to the USPS, these stamps celebrate “the rich legacy of the Walt Disney Studios Ink & Paint Department.”
Inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Walt Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) introduced audiences to a new kind of villain. Driven by jealousy, the Evil Queen plots against Snow White, using dark magic and cunning disguise to bring about her downfall. While Snow White is the heroine, the Queen captivated audiences as a sophisticated and complex antagonist, forever redefining what it meant to be a Disney villain.
