2015 Wedding Series: Vintage Tulip Two Ounce First Class Postage Stamps
2015 Wedding Series: Vintage Tulip Two Ounce First Class Postage Stamps
The tulip was selected for the 2015 Wedding two-ounce stamp as a timeless symbol of devotion. Designed to accommodate heavier wedding invitations and greeting cards requiring extra postage, this graceful issue was paired with a coordinating Vintage Rose Forever® stamp for RSVP cards and thank-you notes.
Emerging even before the last snow melts, tulips are heralds of spring and have long been associated with love. In ancient Turkey and Persia, they symbolized perfect love, with different colors representing everything from deep romantic affection to cheerful friendship.
The Vintage Tulip stamp was designed by Jeanne Greco, based on delicate botanical drawings from engraved plates by the renowned naturalist artist Maria Sibylla Merian (1647–1717). A small, dark red heart was added to introduce a subtle touch of color. Notably, this stamp was produced through traditional engraving, setting it apart from most modern lithographed issues — a beautiful blend of artistry, history, and romantic tradition.
