For more than two centuries, the U.S. flag has changed in design but has always represented the nation’s founding ideals — freedom, liberty, equality, and justice.
In the 18th century, thirteen colonies sought fair treatment from Great Britain, but persistent injustices led to revolution. In 1776, representatives gathered in Philadelphia to sign the Declaration of Independence, affirming that all people are equal and entitled to “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” The document condemned King George III for obstructing justice and declared the colonies free and independent.
The Founding Fathers envisioned a nation where justice and the “blessings of liberty” would be secured for generations. Over the centuries, the United States has grown into a beacon of hope for millions around the world — a living testament to the enduring power of those principles first imagined in 1776.
